About Us

Consigning Women first opened in the Avondale neighborhood, just across the Ashley river from historic Charleston, SC in 1989. One of the first consignment shops in Charleston, Consigning Women quickly became the go-to place for women to consign and shop. Ann Gadsden Shimer purchased the business in 1994 and set about to liven it up.

She brought her boundless energy and easy-going personality to the business and transformed it into the favorite consignment destination for women in Charleston, Mount Pleasant, James Island, Johns Island, Kiawah and Seabrook. In 2010, Ann opened Consigning Women & Men in Mount Pleasant, SC offering women and mens consignments. Now, Ann has realized her vision of eco-smart consignment shopping in comfortable, organized and chic stores. Ann sold the Avondale shop in 2015.

About Ann

Ann Gadsden Shimer has always been a go-getter. Growing up in Charleston, she was always in the know. After graduating from University of South Carolina with a hospitality degree, she sought her MBA in by night at the Citadel while by day, selling retail ad space at the Post & Courier. This gave her valuable insight into Charleston’s retail world, and she saw what was needed…a friendly, stylish store where women could consign clothes and accessories, and shop in an upbeat, fashion-forward atmosphere. In 1993 with MBA in hand, she set about to make that happen…and she did. Now almost 20 years later and with a loyal following, she is still consigning her heart out on both sides of town (and loving every minute of it!).
